에 있어요: say where something is

Combine a place with 에 and 있어요 or 없어요.

Quick phrase

책이 책상 위에 있어요.

The book is on the desk.

Browsing does not mark a lesson complete. Use Save & next after practice to save completion.

Put 에 after a place to show the location of something that exists there: 학교에 있어요 means “am/is at school” in context. 책상 means desk and 위 means top; 책상 위에 means on the desk.

Listen and choose

Listen first. Choose what you hear. This optional practice does not change your saved quiz score.

책이 책상 위에 있어요.

The book is on the desk.

유나는 학교에 있어요.

Yuna is at school.

학교에 물이 없어요.

There is no water at school.

Useful basics on this page
어디예요? Ask where a place is →학교가 어디예요?

Where is the school?

있어요 and 없어요: presence and possession →책이 있어요.

There is a book. / I have a book, in context.

Notice the pattern

Write 학교에 together. In 책상 위에, leave a space before 위 and attach 에 to 위. This 에 marks location with 있어요/없어요; later, actions at a place use 에서. Do not infer a universal translation from the English word “at”.

Try it yourself

Choose “Yuna is at school”.

Where is the book in 책이 책상 위에 있어요?

Which says there is no water at school?

Build “Yuna is at school.”

…

RETRIEVE BEFORE YOU REVEAL
