안: say you do not do something

Use short negatives with the familiar action verbs.

Quick phrase

커피를 안 마셔요.

I do not drink coffee.

Browsing does not mark a lesson complete. Use Save & next after practice to save completion.

For these verbs, put 안 before the action: 안 가요 (do not go), 안 먹어요 (do not eat), 안 읽어요 (do not read). With 공부하다, the common short negative is 공부 안 해요.

Listen and choose

Listen first. Choose what you hear. This optional practice does not change your saved quiz score.

커피를 안 마셔요.

I do not drink coffee.

오늘은 학교에 안 가요.

Today, I do not go to school.

오늘은 공부 안 해요.

Today, I do not study.

Useful basics on this page
먹어요, 가요, 해요: polite everyday verbs →밥을 먹어요.

I eat a meal. / I am eating a meal, in context.

이/가 아니에요: say what someone is not →저는 학생이 아니에요.

I am not a student.

Notice the pattern

오늘 means today. 오늘은 makes today the topic, often with a contrast. Leave a space after 안. The short negative of noun + 하다 activities often separates the noun and 하다: 공부 안 해요. Do not use 아니에요 to negate these actions.

Try it yourself

Choose “I do not drink coffee”.

Choose the common short negative of 공부해요.

What does 오늘 mean?

Build “Today I do not go to school.”
